Microsoft Partners with New Mind on Photosynth PR

9th May 2009

Categories: News - Latest

Microsoft has collaborated with New Mind and VisitBrighton on the launch of its latest Photosynth technology.

Photosynth has now been updated to enable commercial use through integration with Microsoft Virtual Earth, enabling businesses to use the technology in commercial applications.

As part of the new product launch, Microsoft has created a promotional video featuring New Mind and VisitBrighton, the first of their customers to implement the Photosynth technology on the www.visitbrighton.com website. The video aims to demonstrate the diversity of the software in terms of its implications for any organisation which wants to share location-based information. US space agency, NASA also features in the video, with a stunning collection of photographs giving people a new way to explore the International Space Station.

Photosynth software analyses digital photographs and generates a 3-D model by 'stitching' the photos together. With the integration of Photosynth into Virtual Earth, customers will be able to create detailed 3-D views of anything from places to products and from hotels to homes.

VisitBrighton recognised the potential of Photosynth, both to tourism businesses and visitors to Brighton. Together VisitBrighton and New Mind can now offer potential visitors detailed visual information about attractions to encourage people to visit the city.

The video has already achieved massive exposure with coverage on YouTube, Travolution (UK), WebUser (UK), Times Online and Guardian (UK) to name a few.

This project has been featured as an official technology case study on the Microsoft web site. Read the full case study.
