New Mind has just returned a tourism event in Nairobi, the largest in a series of events forming part of E-Tourism Africa running throughout this year and 2009.
E-Tourism Africa is a continental initiative to develop a sustainable and equitable online tourism sector in Africa, with special focus in the lead up to 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. The E Tourism conferences, which are a first for Africa, aim to educate and provide resources to both the private and public sectors to enable a shift from traditional sales and marketing methods and to create a locally based, business driven environment for online travel distribution and e-commerce.
The east African leg of the E-Tourism Africa series was a sell-out, attracting around 280 people from all areas of the tourism industry, from small accommodation and safari providers to national tourist boards for Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda and the Seychelles. The Minister for Tourism for Kenya opened the proceedings and presentations from some of the world's leading travel firms including WAYN, Expedia, Eye for Travel and Eviivo were featured, amongst many others.
Director of New Mind, Andy Abram and International Business Development Manager, Tony Radford represented New Mind and were able to establish contact with several potential customers for the company's Destination Management System. Follow up meetings have also been arranged with a few of the tourist boards at the World Travel Market in November.
Although the schedule was tight, the guys did manage to squeeze in an opportunity to see some of the local wildlife.
