New Mind has been selected for a project to promote Medway's tourism and leisure facilities with the provision of a new Destination Management System (DMS) and three dedicated websites.

Steeped in history and rich in culture, the area known as Medway in Kent has a comprehensive tourism offering, including the cathedral city of Rochester, the towns of Chatham and Gillingham and beautiful surrounding countryside.

Medway Council's primary objective for the tourism project is to exploit the area's wealth of potential by implementing a 'best of breed' and future-proof e-tourism solution, capable of promoting Medway to a world-wide audience. The new site aims to increase awareness of the quality and range of tourism products on offer, both within and around Medway.

The primary objective for the 'Medway Gets Active' site is to proactively promote Medway's sports and activities to the areas population of 250,000. New Mind's new website will be at the heart of their online strategy to inform and communicate to the local community, allowing residents to learn, interact, obtain advice and keep track on their progress. The site will promote the benefits of exercising via intereactive forums and message boards, an 'Ask the Trainer' section for professional advice, personal fitness tracking and directories on free activities and services in the area.

A further new site will be developed, dedicated to promoting the area's theatre events.

The Medway project will be phased, with completion planned for Autumn 2009.

More about Medway...

Medway has plenty to offer to tourists, combining a vibrant past with breathtaking surrounding countryside. Rochester is home to England's 2nd oldest cathedral and England's tallest Castle keep, as well as numerous buildings of great architectural and historic interest. Chatham is home to The Historic Dockyard, one of the world's most important and fascinating maritime locations and a prospective world heritage site. Charles Dickens was born in Chatham and later lived near Rochester and you can still visit many of the Medway locations which feature in his novels. In contrast, Medway's countryside offers cycle and walking routes and trails around the area's many country parks and nature reserves.
