New Mind client, the Beatles Story picked up the Tourism Website of the Year Award at the Mersey Partnership Annual Tourism Awards last Friday. 500 guests attended the glittering event at St George's Hall hosted by Liverpool born celebrity, Les Dennis.
The Beatles Story is a world class visitor attraction based in Liverpool's Albert Dock. The site, www.beatlesstory.com, was originally launched in Sping 2004 and has since achieved major success in terms of generating site traffic, driving visitors to the Beatles Story museum and boosting sales of Beatles merchandise. Around 15% of traffic to the attraction originates from web site visits.
New Mind have just completed a further phase of development on the site with the objective of positioning www.beatlesstory.com as the definitive Beatles resource and the most comprehensive source of information about history, songs etc. The project aims to increase visits to the site and boost footfall for the Beatles Story Museum. The new development involves the creation of a Beatles Wiki (see full definition below) which enables visitors to add their own facts and views to the site in a moderated environment. The existence of constantly updated content will have an impact on search engine rankings as well as creating a unique and interesting experience for the user.
What is a wiki? A wiki is a web application that allows users to add content, as on an Internet forum, but also allows anyone to edit that content. Wiki can also refer to the collaborative software used to create such a website. The word 'wiki' originates from 'wiki wiki' meaning 'quick' or 'fast' in Hawaiian. The world's largest wiki is 'Wikipedia', the english language online encyclopedia.
