A New Chapter for Timeless Wiltshire

19th August 2015

Categories: Our News

VisitWiltshire's newly refreshed responsive website, has unveiled a new look this week, marking the start of a new chapter in the destination's fascinating story.

The site has been developed by New Mind | tellUs in conjunction with VisitWiltshire’s Online Marketing Group, and features Wiltshire’s new 'Timeless' brand positioning, with a focus on the key themes of Timeless Wonders, Timeless Nature, Timeless Places and Timeless Pleasures.

The site invites the visitor to walk through time and explore the destination's rich heritage, attractions and arts and culture.  Wiltshire's World Heritage Site, including Stonehenge and Avebury, has been drawing in visitors for centuries and Salisbury's magnificent medieval Cathedral is home to the finest of the four surviving original 1215 Magna Carta.

The area's natural beauty is also emphasised, exploiting the fact that almost half of the county is designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.  The site features a comprehensive guide on the numerous ways to enjoy Wiltshire's quintessentially English countryside including walking, cycling, canal boating, soft adventure, exploring market towns, arts and culture, festivals and events.

VisitWiltshire's newly commissioned photography is a major component of the look and feel for the site, with the use of large bold imagery showcasing and supporting the 'Timeless' positioning.

Social media is a key element for VisitWiltshire too.  Earlier in the year the destination was ranked no. 1 in the first English Tourism Social Media Index which graded 126 regional tourism bodies in England according to their social media performance across 9 social networks.  The new site will continue to provide a platform for engagement, featuring videos, user-generated imagery and third party content.

The site will be fundamental to the growth strategy for Wiltshire's Visitor Economy, raising awareness of the destination and its 600+ partners whilst generating additional tourism visits and spend.

Fiona Errington of VisitWiltshire comments "Over 50% of our visitor traffic to the website comes from mobiles or tablets so making this website fully responsive and therefore increasing its usability factor was high on our agenda. We anticipate usage on mobiles and tablets will grow further to increase unique visitors to the website."
