Following the launch of our new site for Nordfjord, New Mind | tellUs can now reveal that the destination is the first to benefit from our exciting new functionality to help outdoor enthusiasts find the perfect route to match their needs and ability.
Norway's stunning Nordfjord region offers a whole range of outdoor activities and hiking, in particular, is in great demand. The destination's coastal location and mild climate means that hiking is a popular year-round activity. However, safety is regarded as paramount so it's important that visitors have all of the necessary information to select routes which are appropriate to their fitness and ability. Our new enhanced route planning information storage, search and display functionality has been developed with this in mind.
Firstly our activity product records now allow the storage of additional route data so that our DMOs can add value to their offer, whether it be walking, hiking, cycling or skiing. This new data not only enables the visitor to perform more sophisticated searches, refined to their exact needs, but also facilitates the display of more comprehensive route information within product pages. For Nordfjord, this data is provided by local ramblers, hiking associations, sports clubs and the destination's own internal teams.
Also, our search facility now allows visitors to refine routes by:
- season (time of year that the walk is open for access)
- grade (easy, moderate, difficult & expert) with colour coding
- surface type
Search results now include colour coding for the difficulty level together with the length of the route, duration and terrain (eg. forest, mountains, coastal area etc.) and season if applicable. The new, more comprehensive product detail pages include an image gallery, route information (distance, duration, amount of climbing, terrain), route map, elevation graph, GPX download and route card download.
To get an idea of how the new route functionality works, visit the Nordfjord website to see it in action on the spectacular Via Ferrata climb in Loen.
