Season's Greetings & 2017 Review

It's been another busy year at New Mind | tellUs and as always, the end of the year provides us with an opportunity to reflect on our achievements.   We would like to extend our thanks, both to our own hard-working teams in the UK and Norway and of course, to our loyal clients for their continued support.

Let's have a quick look at the key milestones of 2017...

UK Sites

2017 started with a bang as the first phase of a major project to create a place marketing platform for Marketing Manchester was completed by the team, forming part of a suite of sites to position Manchester as a place to meet, invest, study, do business and live as well as visit.

Later in the year, the Invest and Meet sites were launched, promoting Greater Manchester as the complete destination.  

The arrival of 2017 also heralded a new look for Visit Dorset with the development of a new site, one of the first to adopt our super-desktop contemporary design featuring expansive imagery to fully exploit the destination's spectacular scenery. We also had an opportunity to renew our partnership with Bournemouth Tourism as they enlisted our help to develop a visually stronger, more intuitive design.

Closer to home, the new www.visitsouthport.com was the focus of global attention as the destination prepared to host the 146th Open Championship at Royal Birkdale,  as well as the Southport Flower Show and the ever popular Air Show, boosted by our PPC and SEO expertise.

The completion of a project for the Falkland Islands was a real high point for the team, creating an exciting opportunity to promote 'one of the last great wilderness destinations'. Working in partnership with the Falkland Islands Tourist Board, we think that we did the destination justice, exploiting some stunning photography and great content to emphasise the Island's unique qualities and beauty.

Our new enhanced Tourism Essentials solution made its debut at the beautiful destination of Fowey in South Cornwall, with an improved design, cleaner layout and wide panoramic imagery , all in an affordable format. 

The team at NVG have been busy in Wales.  The new Visit Monmouthshire site was launched to capitalise on Wales' 2017 Year of Legends and visitors were enticed to explore the beauty of Mid Wales following the development of a new go-to resource for this stunning area.

We had the pleasure of launching a new fully responsive site for the most visited county in the South East, Visit Hampshire, incorporating the new 'perfect blend of city, coast and country' branding as well as our new improved grid view for search results.

Visit Leicester's new site was unveiled in the Autumn with the aim of extending the destination's reach to domestic and international markets and driving incremental spending for visitors in-destination.

Our success in Devon continued throughout the year.  Visit Exeter's new site to position the city as the destination of choice was completed and Visit South Devon opted to create a new all-encompassing year-round promotional platform, following swiftly on the heels of projects for Plymouth (Invest and Conference Sites), Visit Devon and the English Riviera (official launch coming soon - see below).  

We round off our UK site launches for the year with the completion of a major project for Go New Forest, our first implementation on the agile and affordable Tourism Pro solution, delivered within 3 months from concept to launch.

Meanwhile in Scandinavia...

A new site for Geiranger, the jewel in the crown of the Norwegian fjords was revealed, with an image-led format reflecting the area's stunning landscapes and outstanding beauty. This was the 27th site to be launched by New Mind | tellUs as part of our major project for the Fjord Norway region.

The Tourism Essentials solution has proved to be a popular platform in Scandinavia as well as in the UK with Destination Harstad opting for the new release featuring enhanced functionality and features.

In June the team went on a fact finding mission to the beautiful destination of Svalbard, one of the world's northern most inhabited areas.  Launched a couple of weeks ago, the design of the resulting site sets out to convey the destination's stark beauty.  

And more international news...

In April we launched our first Arabic and Russian language sites for the Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority (RAK TDA) following our acquisition of our first customer in the Middle East last year.

And we said Benvenuto to Alto Piemonte, our first client in Italy.  Located in the foothills of the Italian alps, with an abundance of natural and cultural resources, the area has plenty to shout about. We look forward to generating a new source of income and boosting the destination's profile.

Also in the pipeline... 

  • A show of confidence from one of the UK's top tourism destinations as the English Riviera task us to build on the success of www.englishriviera.co.uk, originally launched in 2011.  
  • A contract for Make it York to build a site for one of the most diverse and romantic cities in the world
  • The opportunity to position Nottingham and Nottinghamshire as a top UK destination for tourism and  inward investment
  • A new responsive site for the North East's hidden gem, the Tees Valley 
  • A promotional platform for some of the UK's most iconic tourism attractions following our acquisition of a contract to redevelop the Visit Windsor website (using the Tourism Pro solution)
  • A brand new commercially driven site for Poole Tourism with a whole new range of income generating opportunities for the DMO and its providers

Watch out for news of the official launches for all of the above early next year.

Innovation & Development

Despite the raft of new sites being launched during 2017, we haven't become complacent.  We know that we need to keep innovating to ensure that our DMOs have all the tools that they need to meet the needs of today's visitor.  During the last 12 months our clients have benefited from the release of a range of new features and functionality:  

  • Visit Bergen was the first to adopt our new LiveChat feature enabling the DMO to talk directly to its visitors, boosting customer service levels and improving the visitor experience
  • Our new Events Calendar (initially rolled out to the Norwegian market) allowed municipalities (or Councils) to provide one definitive source of information for all the cultural activities and events in their region
  • Work commenced on a new email solution which will shortly offer direct integration with our DMS to facilitate the delivery of personalised content based on visitors' specific interests via email
  • A new version of our popular 'What's Nearby' feature enabled our DMOs to offer improved trip planning to their visitors
  • A new report was introduced to provide our DMOs with a boost to their membership recruitment by arming them with information on where their providers' pages rank in Google
  • The rollout of the new DMS 3.4 was completed in Scandinavia, delivering on our promise to provide our customers with the best of the New Mind | tellUs combined functionality and provide one integrated platform for all
