Visitors looking for the ultimate island adventure need look no further than the new Falkland Islands destination site, www.falklandislands.com, launched by New Mind | tellUs this week
The Falkland Islands Tourist Board appointed New Mind | tellUs to deliver its digital strategy last October and contribute to the development of this exciting and unique destination.
The site positions the Falkland Islands as 'one of the last great wilderness destinations', using stunning photography with dramatic effect to emphasise its unique qualities and beauty.
The 'Where Can I Find' map feature on the home page highlights all of the characteristics which set the Falkland Islands apart. Locations for Penguins, Epic Landscapes, Battlefields and Memorials, Bird Watching and Marine Life and Walking and Hiking are all plotted on a map to help the visitor to navigate their way around the Islands' key offerings.
The site's Destination Management System (DMS) has been adapted to suit the Falkland Islands' unique requirements, with penguins, seals, whales and dolphins replacing the standard family fun, activity centre and spa product categories.
The site features a dedicated 'Meet the Islanders' section telling the story of the residents who make the destination so special and phase 2 of the site's development will involve the launch of a shop selling a variety of merchandise including locally produced crafts and quality clothing.
Tour operators are a key market for the Falkland Islands, with two thirds of bookings being generated by this sector. Visitors will shortly have the ability to build itineraries and mail them to tour operators to allow them to create the trip of a lifetime.
Acting CEO of the Falkland Islands Tourist Board, Stephanie Middleton comments: "We are delighted to finally launch this site. It is driven by a detailed database of accommodation, restaurants, shops, attractions and events, which allows us to make changes and keep it fresh on a regular basis. A lot of work has gone into writing content for the site and collecting photographs. This website is our window to the world and we want to show the Falklands off in the best light. With 90% of all trips now being planned and booked through online research, it has never been more important to have a strong internet presence."
