York's New Site Will Entice Visitors to Embark on a Rich Cultural Adventure

New Mind | tellUs has been awarded a contract by Make It York, the Destination Management Organisation for one of the most fascinating, diverse and romantic cities in the world.

The Visit York brand is synonymous with a rich ancient history dating back to Roman times. The city is renowned for its exquisite architecture and the iconic York Minster, one of the world's most magnificent cathedrals, with its foundations rooted in England's earliest history.   York's most famous shopping street, The Shambles is one of the best preserved medieval shopping streets in Europe and now houses cafes, quirky boutiques and unique jewellery shops.

The new Visit York site will present the city's wealth of tourism assets within a future-proofed responsive format.  York's ancient walled centre offers more attractions per square mile than any other destination in the UK and the site will act as a spring board to a rich cultural adventure, featuring content for architectural, culinary, festivals, musical, family thrills and heritage themed experiences.

Content for some of York's lesser known facts will also be featured.  While other Northern cities attribute their wealth to steel, coal and wool, York's fame and fortune has been connected to chocolate for almost 300 years, boasting a number of great entrepreneurial household names such as Rowntree's, Terry's and the Cravens and world famous brands such as KitKat, Aero and Terry's Chocolate Orange, all originating from the historic city of York.

The design and structure of the new attention grabbing home page will improve visitor engagement and entice visitors to explore the rest of the site.  Visitors will be offered a more personalised experience based on historical visits and a streamlined, action based navigation will leave them in no doubt about where to go next.

Monetisation is a pre-requisite, with online ticket sales, accommodation and conference bookings, advertising space sales and potential for integration with programmatic advertising platforms all enabling Visit York to work collaboratively with businesses, achieving greater transparency via more sophisticated reporting and measurability.

Sally Greenaway Head of Visit York comments: "We are delighted to be working with New Mind | tellUs on the development of our new website which will enable Visit York to take a much needed positive step change within the digital arena for tourism.  We currently attract over 6.9 million visitors to our fabulous city, and with the help of our slick new digital first, customer centric website, which is set to launch Autumn 2017, we hope to really showcase York to our first time visitors, as well as those who come time and time again, and not forgetting our local residents.  Our website is set to be visually impactful, featuring fresh content and inspiring itineraries, which appeal to our broad audience.  We also hope to encourage our visitors to take advantage of our quick and easy accommodation platform, as well as creating personal itineraries.  As an organisation, we are incredibly excited about our digital future, and look forward to working closely with New Mind | tellus over the forth coming months."
